What does poria cocos extract powder do?
Poria cocos extract is a mixture of active ingredients extracted from the dried sclerotium of the Polyporaceae fungus Poria cocos. Poria cocos has been one of the four most commonly used traditional medicinal materials since ancient times. It has a history of more than 2,000 years of medicinal use in China and has a long history as a traditional food with health benefits. It is rich in ingredients, mainly including polysaccharides, triterpenes and fatty acids. Today, it has attracted attention for its effects on various aspects of health.
What are the effects of Panax notoginseng extract?
Regulate immunity
Contains a variety of active ingredients such as polysaccharides, saponins and polyphenols, which can regulate the function of the immune system and enhance the body's immunity.
Antioxidant
Contains a variety of antioxidant ingredients, which can remove free radicals in the body, reduce oxidative damage, and prevent aging and disease.
Hypoglycemic
Poria extract can promote the secretion and utilization of insulin and lower blood sugar levels.
Protect the digestive system
Experimental studies have shown that it can reduce gastric acid, and can significantly reduce the activity of alanine aminotransferase, preventing liver cell necrosis.
Regulate metabolism in the body
It has a regulating effect on the balance of electrolytes, and can lower blood sugar and inhibit the permeability of capillaries.
Antibacterial
Contains antibacterial and anti-inflammatory ingredients, which have inhibitory effects on Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Proteus.
Diuretic and detumescence
Poria is rich in pachylin, which has a diuretic effect, can promote the excretion of electrolytes such as sodium, chloride, and potassium, thereby inhibiting the repeated absorption of renal tubules, helping to eliminate edema, and helping to strengthen the kidneys.
Strengthen the spleen and stop diarrhea
Poria cocos can strengthen the spleen and eliminate dampness and stop diarrhea, especially it is good at treating diarrhea caused by spleen deficiency and dampness. For diarrhea and leukorrhea caused by spleen deficiency and dysfunction, the application of Poria cocos has the effect of taking both the symptoms and the root cause into consideration.
Nourishing the heart and calming the mind
Poria cocos contains some nutrients that calm the mind. According to research, Poria cocos can inhibit the central nervous system, thus playing a role in calming the mind.
Extraction process
Extraction of Poria polysaccharide: Poria polysaccharide includes water-soluble and alkali-soluble polysaccharides, which are traditionally extracted by hot water extraction and diluted alkali extraction respectively. The process flow of the extraction method is generally: Poria crushing, defatting, extraction centrifugation, supernatant concentration, alcohol precipitation, impurity removal, and drying. However, the extraction rate of polysaccharides by water extraction is low, and the diluted alkali extraction method is easy to inhibit the biological activity of Poria polysaccharide. At present, new technologies are often used to assist extraction, such as ultrasound, microwave, enzyme method, etc., or a combination of various technologies to improve the yield of polysaccharides.
1) Ultrasonic-assisted extraction: Ultrasonic-assisted extraction technology mainly involves simultaneous ultrasonic treatment during the extraction step to improve the cell wall breaking effect. The ultrasonic-assisted hot water extraction method was used to extract water-soluble polysaccharides from Poria sclerotia, and the process combination was obtained as follows: solid-liquid ratio 1:60, ultrasonic time 25 min, extraction temperature 80℃, under which the extraction rate was 2.73%, while the extraction rate of the traditional hot water extraction method was below 2%.
2) Microwave-assisted extraction: Microwave-assisted extraction technology uses microwave heating to cause polar substances in cells, especially water molecules, to absorb microwave energy, thereby rapidly increasing the temperature in the cells. The pressure generated by the vaporization of liquid water breaks through the cell membrane and cell wall, forming tiny holes, and then cracks appear, so that extracellular solvents can easily enter the cells, dissolve and release intracellular products. Microwaves are usually used to assist in the extraction step. Microwave-assisted extraction technology was used to extract water-soluble polysaccharides from Poria cocos. The extraction process was optimized by orthogonal experiments, that is, the extraction time was 15 min, the microwave power was 750 W, the solid-liquid ratio was 1:30, and the yield of Poria cocos polysaccharides was 1.80%.
3) Enzyme-assisted extraction: Enzyme extraction generally adds appropriate active enzymes to assist cell wall breaking during extraction, such as proteases, cellulases, chitinases, etc. In the enzymatic method, 0.5% papain was used, and the polysaccharide was extracted after being treated at pH 6 and 60℃ for 2 h. The extraction rate was much higher than that of the hot water extraction method and the microwave method, reaching 237 mg·g1. The combination of the enzymatic method and other methods can further improve the extraction rate. Considering the influence of factors such as polysaccharide extraction efficiency, extraction time and extraction cost, the process method for extracting Poria polysaccharide is: enzymatic method + microwave method. The extraction conditions of this process are mild, the extraction method is simple, the extraction time is short, and the polysaccharide extraction efficiency is high.
4) High-efficiency membrane separation; some studies have used high-efficiency membrane separation technology to intercept polysaccharides in Poria water extract, and further dried to obtain polysaccharide extracts, but the polysaccharide content obtained by this method is low, only about 0.5%.
5) Fermentation extraction of Poria polysaccharide: At present, many studies have also used fermentation to cultivate Poria mycelium and extract Poria polysaccharide from it. This method has the advantages of short cycle, large output, and easy control of product standards.
What are the effects of Poria extract on the skin?
Anti-inflammatory
It has good anti-inflammatory effects on various inflammations. Most studies have shown that triterpenoids in Poria are the main components of anti-inflammatory effects, which achieve anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting phospholipase (PLA2). Some studies also believe that Poria polysaccharides also have a certain effect on anti-inflammatory effects.
Antibacterial
The water extract of Poria has antibacterial properties and has a good inhibitory effect on Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, etc.
Prolonging aging
Poria contains active ingredients such as polysaccharides, triterpenes, sterols, and enzymes. Poria polysaccharides can increase the activity of superoxide dismutase (T-SOD and Cu-SOD) in serum to varying degrees, reduce the content of MDA, and have a good anti-aging effect.
Application fields
Food
Poria cocos extract can be used as a food additive, such as beverages, dairy products, cakes, meat products, seafood products, etc., to improve the taste of food and extend the shelf life of food.
Health and medical fields
It is used to treat and prevent diseases such as diabetes and depression. Its polysaccharide components have been shown to promote insulin sensitivity, lower blood sugar, and have anti-inflammatory biological activity. The triterpenoid compounds of Poria cocos also have immunomodulatory pharmacological effects. The extraction and application of these components are important applications of Poria cocos extract in the field of health and medicine.
