What is Terpinen-4-ol?
Terpinen-4-ol is an organic compound, which exists naturally in nutmeg, cardamom, rosemary, coriander, etc. It is a colorless or light yellow oily liquid with spicy, earthy, green and woody aromas. Biological mechanism of action:

Synthesis

At present, the source of this compound is not only extracted from tea tree oil, but also synthesized by base-promoted 1,4-cineole rearrangement or acid-catalyzed limonene hydration. However, these synthetic processes based on corrosive, non-recyclable homogeneous reagents are non-selective and produce a large number of isomers, which makes the purification of active substances very complicated and more expensive. Therefore, researchers have conducted in-depth research and created a synthetic method with no isomers produced, only on solid catalysts such as alumina, nano-titanium dioxide and Pd/C, through selective epoxidation, isomerization of terpinolene epoxide and hydrogenation of allyl alcohol, with a yield of >60%. For the isomerization of terpinolene epoxide, the synthesis can be carried out in batch or flow mode.
