What is Tea Saponin?
Tea Saponin is a natural glycoside compound, mainly found in plants of the Theaceae family, especially in tea leaves, tea seeds, tea roots and other parts of tea trees. It is a mixture of oleanane-type pentacyclic triterpenoid saponins, and its basic structure consists of three parts: sapogenin, glycoside and organic acid. It belongs to the triterpenoid saponin, has a bitter and spicy taste, and is easily soluble in aqueous methanol, aqueous ethanol, glacial acetic acid, acetic anhydride, pyridine, etc. In aqueous solution, it can produce long-lasting foam, similar to soap foam, hence the name "saponin". It has many important physiological functions and broad application prospects. In addition, it also has good emulsification, dispersion, wetting, decontamination, foaming and other surface activities, and is a natural surfactant with excellent performance. Therefore, it is widely used in medicine, daily chemical industry, textile, feed and other fields.

Solubility: Hard to dissolve in anhydrous methanol and ethanol, insoluble in organic solvents such as ether, acetone, benzene, petroleum ether, etc., easily soluble in aqueous methanol, aqueous ethanol, glacial acetic acid, acetic anhydride, pyridine, etc.

Production Process
Water immersion method
Solvent: Water is used as solvent.
Extraction process: Operate under warm water conditions of 40℃ to 50℃, with a solvent ratio of 1:(1-1.5), and improve the extraction efficiency by circulating leaching two to three times.
Dehydration and drying: The soaked tea meal has a high water content, and most of the water is removed by vacuum filtration or centrifugal separation, and then dried.
Concentration: The extracted soap slurry is first precipitated to remove impurities, and then vacuum concentrated to obtain a certain concentration of soap slurry.
Alcohol immersion method
Solvent: Ethanol or methanol is used as solvent.
Extraction process: The ethanol concentration will gradually decrease during the recycling process, and the ethanol concentration of more than 85% is maintained by adding fresh solvent.
Desolventization and evaporation: The desolventization of wet meal by alcohol immersion adopts a process of baking desolventization as the main method and steam stripping desolventization as the auxiliary method to ensure the appropriate thickness of the material layer, the quality of direct steam, and strictly control the amount of water vapor.
Solvent recovery: The solvent vapor from the desolventization and evaporation processes is condensed and recovered, and then reused after temporary storage.
Water extraction and alcohol precipitation method
Extraction process: The optimal process conditions for the water extraction process are extraction temperature of 60℃, liquid-to-solid ratio of 10:1, extraction time of 2 hours, and extraction times of 3 times. After water extraction, alcohol precipitation is performed. The optimal conditions obtained through experiments are ethanol concentration of 90%, ethanol to concentrate volume ratio of 4:1, alcohol precipitation temperature of 75℃, and alcohol precipitation time of 2.5 hours.
Refining process: including steps such as impurity removal, decolorization, purification, concentration, and drying.
