What is Phlorizin powder?
Phlorizin powder, also known as phloridzin, is a glycoside compound formed by the combination of phloretin and a glycoside molecule, belonging to the flavonoid subclass of dihydrochalcones.
It is a phenolic substance extracted from apples, apple peels, leaves, and other parts. One of its degradation products, phloretin, demonstrates effective inhibition of microbial activity. Its accumulation is a distinctive phenomenon in plants of the Malus genus, primarily first extracted from the root bark of apples (Malus domestica). Its content in the peel (ranging from 12 to 418 mg/kg) is significantly higher than that found in different varieties of pulp (4 to 20 mg/kg).
