What is glycyrrhizinate powder?

Glycyrrhizinate powder derived from the roots and rhizomes of the leguminous plant licorice, it is the main active ingredient in licorice, with a content of about 10%. Also known as glycyrrhizin, glycyrrhizin, it is a glycoside composed of glycyrrhizinate and 2 molecules of glucuronic acid. White to slightly yellow crystalline powder, no odor, with a unique sweetness, about 200 times the sweetness of sucrose. Its sweetness is different from sweeteners such as sucrose. It takes a while to taste sweet after it enters the mouth, but it retains for a long time. A small amount of glycyrrhizin and sucrose can reduce the use of 20% sucrose without changing the sweetness. Although it has no aroma, it has the effect of enhancing fragrance. The aqueous solution is weakly acidic, and the pH value of a 2% solution is 2.5~3.5. It is difficult to dissolve in water and dilute ethanol. It is easily soluble in hot water and becomes a viscous jelly after cooling. Glycyrrhizinate  is a triterpenoid saponin. In addition, there are glycyrrhizin, isoliquiritigenin, etc.
It is an active substance mainly found in licorice roots, also known as glycyrrhizinate or glycyrrhizic acid.
It has the effect of replenishing qi and blood and harmonizing internal organs. After being used as medicine, it can replenish the body's qi and blood, harmonize the internal organs, and play a nourishing role. Therefore, it is often used to treat symptoms such as qi deficiency and blood weakness, spleen and stomach weakness, etc.
It also has analgesic, antipyretic, and anti-inflammatory effects. It can regulate the immune system and inhibit inflammatory reactions, thereby alleviating pain and fever symptoms. Therefore, it is often used to treat colds, fever, headaches and other diseases.
In addition, it also has anti-allergic, blood pressure lowering, and anti-liver damage effects. It can resist allergies and reduce allergic reactions; it can lower blood pressure and prevent cardiovascular diseases; it can also protect the liver and prevent liver damage.

Efficacy:
Anti-inflammatory effect: It can inhibit the metabolic levels of phospholipase A2/arachidonic acid (PLA2/AA), NF-κB and MAPK/AP-1 key inflammatory response signals induced by inflammatory stimulation at the initial stage, inhibit the activity of inflammatory response signals related to the three inflammatory pathways, downregulate the upstream related pro-inflammatory cytokines of the inflammatory pathway, including TNF-α, IL-8, IL-1β, IIL-6, related chemokines and cyclooxygenase (COX) expression, and block the downstream of the inflammatory pathway, including the generation of nitric oxide (NO), prostaglandins (PG) and reactive oxygen species (ROS).
Three anti-inflammatory pathways:
1. Arachidonic acid (PLA2/AA)/phospholipase A2
Inhibits leukotrienes (inducing inflammation), PGI1 (vasodilation), PGE2 (inducing inflammation), PGF2a (bronchial constriction), thromboxane A2 (vasoconstriction) produced by arachidonic acid, inhibiting inflammation
2. NF-κB
By inhibiting P13kp1106 and p110y, it expands the inhibitory effect of serine phosphorylation of the p65 subunit necessary for NF-κB transcriptional activity, reduces IkB phosphorylation necessary for NF-κB activation and IkB elimination in LPS-stimulated macrophages, leading to NF-κB inactivation, and thus anti-inflammatory.
3. MAPK/AP-1 key inflammatory response signal

Antiviral effect: Glycerin can not only inhibit viral replication, but also inhibit viral adsorption and membrane penetration in the early stage of viral replication. It can also interfere with viral DNA and RNA replication, thereby inhibiting viral proliferation and protecting cells from viral damage.

Hepatoprotective effect: Studies have found that it also exhibits good hepatoprotective activity in some animal models of hepatitis. In liver damage caused by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and D-galactosamine (GalN), it can completely inhibit the increase in ALT caused by IL18. By reducing changes in microcirculation and preventing endothelin interactions, it can alleviate liver damage (histology, liver enzymes) induced by ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) in the liver microcirculation and reduce hepatocyte apoptosis, thereby exerting its hepatoprotective effect.

Uses:

(1) It is a high-sweetness, low-calorie health sweetener with a sweetness of about 250 times that of sucrose; it can be added to food, beverages, and candy as a sweetener, and can also be used as a natural pigment in yellow or brown food and beverages.
(2) Pharmaceutical industry: used for cough and expectoration, gastric ulcer, acute and chronic gastritis, eczema, skin itching, hepatitis, hyperlipidemia, conjunctivitis, and for the prevention and treatment of AIDS.
(3) Cosmetics and tobacco industry: can prevent dermatitis, dry skin, sun exposure, rash, throat moisturizing, etc.
(4) Licorice extract can activate corticosteroids (inhibit metabolic enzymes) and indirectly enhance the effects of corticosteroids. It can be used in all cosmetics such as creams, creams, water, dew, lotions, milk and honey. It can neutralize or remove or reduce the toxic substances in cosmetics, and can also prevent allergic reactions in some cosmetics. It is more suitable for advanced hair or skin cosmetics.
(5) Licorice flavonoids have a mild inhibitory effect on tyrosinase. Licorice extract has been proven to be the most effective plant whitening agent.
