What is Gamma Cyclodextrin Powder?

Gamma Cyclodextrin powder is white powder, odorless, slightly sweet, easily soluble in water, and extremely difficult to dissolve in ethanol. It is a cyclodextrin that is widely found in natural plants such as corn and rice. It is a water-soluble dietary fiber with a unique cyclic structure, which makes it have broad application prospects in drug delivery, food industry, environmental protection and other fields.
Gamma cyclodextrin is a cyclic oligosaccharide composed of 8 glucose molecules connected by y(1→4) bonds. Its structure is similar to α-cyclodextrin and B-cyclodextrin, and it also has a hollow structure and cavity. There are 8 hydroxyl groups on the outside of its molecule and a hydrogen bond containing acidic hydroxyl groups inside. It can form inclusion complexes and has good inclusion effects.
It is a polymer chemical product. It has a larger cavity than β-cyclodextrin, so the cavity can include a wider range of guest molecules; better water solubility, at room temperature 25℃, the solubility of γ-cyclodextrin is 25.6g/100ml, while the solubility of α-cyclodextrin is 12.7g/100ml water, and the solubility of β-cyclodextrin is only 1.88g/100ml water. The application prospects are broader than β-cyclodextrin. Compared with α-CD and β-CD, γ-CD has a larger hydrophobic cavity and higher water solubility. It can embed guest molecules with larger molecular weight (such as steroids, curcumin, etc.) to increase solubility and stability, so it has good bioavailability.

Solubility characteristics:

The solubility in water is low, and it usually needs to be dissolved under high temperature and high pressure conditions.
