What Is Amygdalin?
Amygdalin is a cyanogenic glycoside compound found in bitter almonds, also known as amygdalin and vitamin B17. It is mainly found in the seeds of plants of the Rosaceae family, such as bitter almonds, peaches, cherries, plums, etc., especially in wild apricots, where the content can reach 2%-3%. It is the main active ingredient in bitter almonds and has multiple pharmacological effects. It is an effective ingredient for treating respiratory diseases. It slowly releases hydrocyanic acid in the body to paralyze and inhibit the respiratory central system, thereby playing a role in relieving asthma. It is widely used in traditional Chinese medicine to treat coughs, etc.

Features
- It is a β-glycoside composed of gentiobiose and amygdalin, belonging to the cyanogenic glycosides.
- It has a melting point between 223℃ and 226℃, is easily soluble in water and alcohol, and is almost insoluble in ether.
- It is easily hydrolyzed by acids and enzymes. The aglycone α-hydroxyphenylacetonitrile obtained after hydrolysis is unstable and easily decomposes to form benzaldehyde and hydrocyanic acid.

Production Method
Water extraction method
Use almonds or raw peach kernels as raw materials, directly extract with hot water, the extraction time is about 20 minutes, the solid-liquid ratio is 1:10, the soaking time is 30 minutes, and the extraction is twice. The extraction rate of this method is close to 3.2%.
Alcohol extraction method
Use apricot pollen or bitter almonds as raw materials, use anhydrous ethanol for extraction, the solid-liquid ratio is 1:7, ultrasonic for 20 minutes, and extract for 12 hours. The extraction rate of this method is 6.1%.
It can be extracted by adding 6 times 95% ethanol for 1 hour, a total of 2 times, and then recrystallized with anhydrous ethanol. The extraction rate of this method is 92.47% and the transfer rate is 45.92%.
Macroporous adsorption resin separation and purification method
Use macroporous adsorption resins such as lsa-30 or hz801, which are suitable for adsorption and separation of amygdalin. The adsorption conditions include room temperature extract pH 6-9, adsorption flow rate 1-2 ml/min; elution conditions are 40°C, eluent 60% ethanol (pH6 or pH8), elution flow rate 1-2 ml/min. The purity of amygdalin in this method is 93.6%.
Ultrasonic extraction method
Using mountain almond as raw material, solid-liquid ratio is 1:5, ethanol concentration is 80%, extraction temperature is 70°C, extraction time is 40 minutes, and ultrasonic power is 64 W.
Microwave extraction method
Using bitter almond as raw material, anhydrous ethanol as solvent, solid-liquid ratio is 1:6, extraction temperature is 75°C, extraction time is 15 minutes each time, and microwave power is 500 W.
