What is Zinc Sulfate Heptahydrate?

Zinc Sulfate Heptahydrate Powder,also known as zinc sulfate and zinc sulfate, is an inorganic compound with a molecular formula of ZnSO4·7H2O, usually a white crystalline substance. It is easily soluble in water and gradually weathers in dry air.

This substance appears as white granules or powder at room temperature, has astringency, is easily soluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol and glycerol, loses water when heated to 200°C, and decomposes at 770°C. This compound is easily weathered in dry air, loses part of its crystal water to form a low hydrate, and may deliquesce in a humid environment. It has a wide range of applications in many fields, and is also used in medicine, artificial fibers, electrolysis, and the production of zinc salts.

Preparation Method

Step 1: Grind zinc oxide to 60 mesh, add it to a mixing tank containing waste acid from titanium dioxide production, and start steam heating and stirring. The liquid-to-solid ratio is 6-8:1, heat to 65℃-80℃, and control the reaction at this temperature for 2h-3h; the composition of the waste acid: free sulfuric acid (%) 15-35, ferrous sulfate (%) 5-20;

Step 2: Send the reaction liquid in the mixing tank to the filter press, adjust the angle washing time to 3min, and send the filtrate and washing liquid to the next mixing tank together;

Step 3: Turn on stirring and steam heating, add lime milk to adjust the pH value to 4.5 -5.5, blow air into the solution, heat to 70℃-80℃, and control the reaction at this temperature for 30min-1h;

Step 4: Continue to add 30% hydrogen peroxide to the solution, the reaction time is 1h, and the amount added is solution: hydrogen peroxide = 10:1;

Step 5: After the reaction is completed, send the solution to the filter press, control the corner washing time to 5min, and send the filtrate and washing liquid into the evaporation equipment together;

Step 6: Under slow stirring, evaporate the solution until more crystals are precipitated, quickly cool to 40℃-45℃, crystallize for 3h, and then quickly cool to room temperature.
