What is Sericin?
Sericin is the silk protein wrapped around the outer layer of the cocoon silk. It is a globular protein. The degumming solution of silk can be obtained through decolorization, enzymatic hydrolysis, ion exchange purification, concentration, spray drying and other processes to obtain high-purity soluble powder. It has excellent properties such as good water solubility, fine and uniform particle size, and good appearance and color.

It contains 18 kinds of amino acids, of which the essential amino acids for the human body reach more than 18%. Its molecular conformation is mainly a random curled structure, and its polymer aggregation structure is mainly an amorphous structure. It is a natural moisturizing factor substance that can effectively prevent skin dryness, wrinkles and aging, and inhibit the production of melanin in the skin. At the same time, it has antioxidant function and can resist the erosion of ultraviolet rays, sunlight, microwaves, chemicals, and atmospheric pollutants on the skin. Efficacy

1. Moisturizing and hygroscopic effect
When the stratum corneum of the skin maintains 10%-20% of moisture, the skin can be plump and elastic. When the moisture content of the stratum corneum of the skin is less than 10%, the skin becomes dry or even cracked. The reason why the stratum corneum of the skin contains a certain amount of moisture is that, on the one hand, the sebum membrane can prevent moisture evaporation, and on the other hand, the stratum corneum contains natural moisturizing factors, which play an important role in skin moisturizing and can keep the moisture content in the skin at an appropriate level, thus making the skin elastic, smooth and soft.
However, due to changes in the external environment, when the NMF contained in the skin alone cannot play a role in regulating and moisturizing the skin, the NMF in the stratum corneum of the skin must be continuously supplemented from the outside. The composition of NMF in the stratum corneum of the skin has been determined by Striance and others, and is composed of amino acids, pyrrolidone carboxylic acid, lactate, urea, sugars, organic acids and polypeptides. The protein in the outer layer of silk is an ideal natural moisturizing factor substance, which is mainly due to its close amino acid composition to NMF in the skin. In addition, many polar groups on its polypeptide chain are on the surface, which can transfer body water to the stratum corneum of the skin and combine, so that the skin can maintain a certain amount of moisture.
The reason why it has excellent moisturizing and hygroscopic functions is determined by its molecular structure. The molecular conformation is a random curled structure, and its polypeptide chain is loose and disordered, so that many hydrophilic groups on its polypeptide chain are on the surface of the molecular space structure, and these hydrophilic groups can transfer body water to the stratum corneum of the epidermis and combine, maintaining the appropriate moisture content in the skin, making the skin elastic, smooth and soft. Although glycerin also has good hygroscopic properties, it is easy to clog the skin pores when used in excessive amounts. This product does not have this disadvantage at all.
2. Inhibit melanin production in the skin
Human skin whitening is related to the formation of melanocytes in the cortex, and melanocytes can produce melanin to darken the skin. The formation mechanism of melanin in the skin is due to the presence of tyrosinase in melanocytes, which can oxidize tyrosine in the keratin component of the skin into melanin, and ultraviolet rays can promote this oxidation reaction, so the skin is often exposed to sunlight in summer and tends to darken.
The hydroxy amino acids (serine, threonine) it contains are complexed with trace elements (copper, iron, etc.), which affect the normal activity of tyrosinase, thereby effectively inhibiting the formation of melanin, so adding an appropriate amount of this product to skin care cosmetics can keep the skin white.
3. Protective and repairing effects on hair
The chemical properties of hair protein are inactive and relatively stable, but they are sensitive to heat, acid, alkali and chemicals (such as chemical perm essence). Although cold perm essence is used in the hairdressing process, it will still cause varying degrees of damage to the hair. In addition, the main component of the commonly used perm agent is ammonium thioglycolate. After the hair is treated with the perm agent, the dithiol bonds in the hair keratin are destroyed. Under the action of alkali and hot air, after a short time (1 to 2 minutes), the dithiol bonds in the keratin can be re-bonded, forcing the arrangement of hair cells to change, shaping curly hair and various beautiful and colorful hairstyles. However, after using the perm agent, the elasticity, strength and water storage of the hair will be greatly reduced, causing the hair to dry easily, the number of split ends of the hair to increase, and the hair luster to deteriorate. Sericin is very similar to the structure of hair keratin, so it has a good affinity with hair, and the adsorption amount of hair is also large, and the elasticity and strength of hair will increase.
