What is Scleroglucan?
Scleroglucan is a water-soluble neutral polysaccharide made of glucose polymerized by β-1,3 and β-1,6 glycosidic bonds. It has β-D-1,6 pyranose groups, which reduces its cohesiveness after dissolving in water and has high stability and shear resistance. It is a water-soluble high molecular weight polysaccharide obtained by micronucleus-fungus fermentation. It has significant rheological properties and stability in environments with a wide range of pH, salinity and temperature changes. It is a neutral nonionic polysaccharide. It is a nonionic water-soluble polysaccharide. Due to these properties, it is widely used in various industrial fields, including the food industry, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries.
Main Features
Plasticity: The solution exhibits pseudoplasticity and has a high plasticity, which makes the solution have high suspension power and good pourability.
Anti-sedimentation: It can well maintain the particles in the suspension, and will not cause precipitation in either static or dynamic environments.
Compatibility: Due to its non-ionic properties, it is not affected by acid and alkali in a wide pH range (2.5-12). It is compatible with most thickeners and does not produce synergistic effects.
High heat resistance: High temperature has almost no effect on the viscosity of the solution. The solution can be sterilized at 121℃ for 20 hours without affecting its viscosity. The viscosity can be maintained for 3 months in artificial high-mineralization water at 80℃ and for 500 days in seawater at 90℃.
Stability: It is a non-ionic water-soluble homopolysaccharide produced by filamentous fungi. Its remarkable characteristics are good rheological properties and stability. It has good stability in a wide range of pH (1-12), mineralization (0-200,000 ppm) and temperature (130°C).
