Product Introduction
What is Ferric Citrate?
Ferric Citrate can be regarded as several conjugate bases derived from trivalent iron (Fe3+) and citric acid.
It dissolves slowly in cold water, is very soluble in hot water, and is insoluble in ethanol. The aqueous solution is acidic and can be reduced by light or heat, gradually turning into ferrous citrate. This substance is an edible citrate salt that can be prepared by chemical reaction of citric acid and iron salts. It is often used as a lemon flavoring agent and antioxidant.
In short, ferric citrate, as an inorganic compound, has a wide range of applications in food, medicine and other fields. By deeply understanding its physical and chemical properties, preparation methods, application fields and precautions, we can better provide customers with the best quality products.
Features
Iron supplement: As an iron supplement, it can increase the body's iron storage.
Stability: It can remain stable during food processing and storage, and is not easy to decompose and lose efficacy.
Low irritation: It has less irritation to the gastrointestinal tract, reducing side effects such as indigestion and constipation.
High biocompatibility: It is easily absorbed and utilized in the body, suitable as a food additive and drug ingredient.
Phosphorus binding capacity: It binds phosphorus in the intestine, increases phosphorus excretion, and reduces phosphorus absorption, thereby helping to control phosphorus levels in the blood.
High safety: Compared with other iron supplements, it is milder, less irritating to the gastrointestinal tract, and reduces the occurrence of side effects such as indigestion and constipation.
Physiological Function
Supplementing iron: It can provide the iron ions needed by the human body and help prevent and treat iron deficiency anemia. Iron is an important component for the synthesis of hemoglobin. Lack of iron can lead to anemia, causing symptoms such as fatigue, weakness, and shortness of breath.
Improving anemia symptoms: By supplementing Ferric Citrate, it can increase the synthesis of hemoglobin and improve the oxygen-carrying capacity of the blood, thereby improving various discomfort symptoms caused by anemia, such as pale complexion, dizziness, palpitations, etc.
Promoting growth and development: Iron is essential for the growth and development of children. It can meet the children's body's needs for iron and promote normal growth and development.
Enhancing immunity: Iron also plays an important role in the immune system. Lack of iron can affect the function of immune cells. Supplementing it helps to enhance immunity and improve the body's resistance.
Application
Food
Nutrient enhancer: As a good source of iron, it is added to infant food, fortified flour, cereal products and beverages to prevent iron deficiency anemia.
Acidifier: Gives food a sour taste and improves the taste.
Antioxidant: Combined with polyphenol compounds, it enhances the antioxidant properties of food and prolongs the shelf life.
Cosmetics
Used in facial cleansers, beauty creams, lotions, shampoos, facial masks, etc.
Medicine
As a drug ingredient, it is used to treat iron deficiency anemia, has no toxic side effects, and is easily absorbed. Improve the solubility, stability and taste of drugs, and improve patient compliance with medication.
Agriculture
Trace element fertilizer: Supplement iron in the soil to solve problems such as yellow leaf disease and poor growth caused by iron deficiency in crops.
Regulate soil pH: Improve soil structure, promote soil microbial activity, and benefit crop growth.
Precautions
- It is a relatively low-toxic substance, but some precautions for safe use still need to be observed.
- Appropriate protective measures should be worn when using it, such as gloves and eye protection.
- Storage conditions are room temperature and should be placed out of reach of children and pets.
- Before use, you should read and follow the instructions in its safety data sheet in detail to avoid direct contact with the skin and inhalation of its dust.
Production Method
1. Method 1
Add citric acid to ferric hydroxide solution, heat to below 60℃, evaporate and concentrate to slurry, and dry on a glass plate at low temperature.
2. Method 2
Add ammonia water to ferric sulfate solution to generate ferric hydroxide precipitate. Filter the reaction mixture and wash with water until there is no sulfuric acid. Add citric acid to the above reaction mixture, heat the reaction mixture to 60℃ while stirring to dissolve all the precipitate, and filter the mixture. Heat the filtrate below 60℃ and concentrate it into syrup, apply it on a glass plate into a thin layer to form small leaves, peel it off, warm it slightly, and dry it to obtain the target product.
