Product Introduction

What is Chlorphenesin?

Chlorphenesin is a white to off-white crystalline powder with a weak characteristic odor. It is slightly soluble in water, but easily soluble in ethanol and ether solvents. This unique solubility allows it to maintain stability and activity in different environments. In addition, it also has broad-spectrum antibacterial activity, can effectively resist Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, has strong bactericidal activity against fungi such as Aspergillus niger and Penicillium pineophilum, and has good inhibitory effects on Candida albicans and Saccharomyces cerevisiae.

Chlorphenesin Powder

It is a safe, efficient, broad-spectrum antifungal preservative that has killing effects on most Gram-positive, Gram-negative bacteria and fungi, is non-irritating, and has low toxicity. It is an important antifungal drug allowed for use by relevant regulations of the European Union and China. It has good chemical stability and will not be inactivated under normal storage conditions. It can be used as an antifungal and antibacterial agent and is widely used in personal care products or in industrial fields such as glue, paint, textiles, and papermaking. In medicine, it is an antifungal drug, suitable for use as an antifungal, bacterial, vaginal fungus, trichomoniasis, etc. In cosmetics, it is often used as an antifungal agent in combination with other antibacterial preservatives. In the field of daily chemical products where the amount of parabens is limited and triclosan is banned.

Performance characteristics:

Antibacterial activity: High efficiency and low toxicity, effective against bacteria and molds, and can also effectively fight skin fungal infections;
Mildness: Good skin or mucous membrane tolerance;
Solubility: Solubility in water at 45°C is 0.3%, soluble in organic solvents such as alcohols;
Compatibility with protein: It will not accelerate fat oxidation, nor denature proteins.
As a safe and effective preservative added in limited quantities in cosmetics, it has a broad-spectrum antibacterial effect on fungi and bacteria, and can effectively resist Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, especially Aspergillus niger and Penicillium pineophilum. It has a strong bactericidal activity against Candida albicans and Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
Compared with other preservatives, it is used in cosmetics at a lower concentration. The amount of chlorphenesin used in the "Cosmetic Regulations" is 0.3%, and 0.01% can play a preservative role. It does not contain formaldehyde and is not a formaldehyde releaser. It will not denature proteins. It is an effective and low-toxic antibacterial and antifungal agent, which effectively prevents the product from producing color and unpleasant odor due to microbial growth.

Antiseptic mechanism: The antiseptic effect is achieved by inhibiting the growth of microorganisms. It can destroy the cell membranes of bacteria and yeasts, thereby blocking their growth and reproduction. In addition, it also has the effect of inhibiting enzyme activity, destroying cytoplasm and biofilm, further reducing or preventing the growth of microorganisms.

Antibacterial mechanism:
1. Destroy cell membrane: It can destroy the cell membrane of microorganisms, causing the leakage of cell contents, thereby killing microorganisms. This is one of its main mechanisms for inhibiting the growth of microorganisms.
2. Interfere with enzyme activity: It can interfere with the activity of some key enzymes in microorganisms, such as oxidases, dehydrogenases, etc. These enzymes play a key role in the growth and reproduction of microorganisms. By interfering with the activity of these enzymes, the growth and reproduction of microorganisms can be prevented.
3. Inhibit protein synthesis: It can inhibit the protein synthesis of microorganisms. In microorganisms, protein synthesis is a complex process that requires the participation of a series of enzymes. By inhibiting the activity of these enzymes, protein synthesis can be prevented, thereby inhibiting the growth and reproduction of microorganisms.
4. Inhibit nucleic acid synthesis: It can inhibit the nucleic acid synthesis of microorganisms. Nucleic acids are important biological macromolecules in microorganisms and are essential for the growth and reproduction of microorganisms. By inhibiting the synthesis of nucleic acids, the growth and reproduction of microorganisms can be prevented.
Safety Product Evaluation

1. Toxicology
The absorption, distribution and metabolism of chlorphenesin were evaluated using male SD mice and Beagle dogs. The oral experimental results showed that it would be rapidly absorbed by the matrix and then excreted from the body through urine. The components in the urine included 3-p-chlorophenoxylactic acid, pchlorophenoxyacetic acid.
Subcutaneous absorption studies have shown that it can be absorbed percutaneously, up to 57%, and then the part absorbed into the body will be completely excreted after 96 hours.
2. Toxicology
Acute oral toxicity: The results of the acute oral toxicity test on mice showed that its median lethal dose LD50 was 3000mg/kg;
Irritation: When it was infused into the eyes of rabbits at a concentration of 1%, it was found to have a slight irritation to the eyes; the human closed patch test showed that applying 0.3% chlorphenesin and then staying for 48 hours would cause negligible slight skin irritation.
Immunosuppression: Through a variety of in vitro tests, human and mouse cellular immune test systems were measured. The results showed that it has an inhibitory effect on a wide range of lymphocytes B and T, mainly inhibiting the proliferation reaction. By studying its effects on the immune response of mice, rabbits and guinea pigs, it is known that it is an effective immunosuppressant. Because it is an immunosuppressant that works with antigens, it will not affect the level of existing antibodies or repeated effects, nor will it increase the risk of animal infection.
3. Reproductive development and genetic toxicity
After mating, mice took oral doses of up to 100 mg/kg per day for 6 to 15 days, which had no adverse effects on the survival, growth and development of the embryo and fetus in the uterus. The experimental results showed that it has no genetic toxicity.
The safety assessment concluded that it is safe to add less than 0.3% to the product.
