What is aescin?

Aescin, also known as aescin acid, is a general term for total saponins, β-escin or isoescin extracted from the dried mature seeds of plants of the Aesculus family, and belongs to the triterpenoid saponins. Aescin has poor water solubility, and in order to increase its solubility, it is often made into sodium salt. Aescin contains many kinds of saponin compounds, which are named aescin A, aescin B, aescin C and aescin D.
